I'm here because nobody else in the Bay Area wants to talk about drinking, sex, and eating their vegetables.

What I’ve Accomplished During My First Week Of Self-imposed Unemployment

-Read two library books (Chris Hardwick’s The Nerdist Way and Sarah Vowell’s Unfamiliar Fishes)

-Burned the following CDs from the library (I’m too old school to download and too cheap to purchase)- Wyatt Cenac’s Comedy Person, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Bon Iver’s Blood Bank, and Dark Night of the Soul by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.

-Started to grow a crystal from a kit (which took forever because my manfriend, the crystallization expert, insisted that I tweak the directions).

-Broke in my new slowcooker- black beans, veggie stroganoff, barley casserole

-Took my bike out for a few rides. Would have been more but it’s making a strange noise.

-Hung out with a few friends.

-Purchased flight to Chicago using most of my Virgin miles- 1/31-2/14

-Wrote a long overdue email to a friend from Australia who probably wont get it because he’s doing the Ozzie version of the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea. Also used that feature on my phone that allows me to make phone calls and had an actual conversation with my pal Becky. And my Dad. Slowly, I will become a social creature again.

-Bought a Wii fit and have used it for 45 minutes a day for the past five days.

-Beautified and organized the house that I share with two guys.

-Helped a friend get rid of whatever wont fit in her SUV for a cross country move. This meant absorbing alot of her stuff into our already crammed house but it’s useful stuff, so it’s okay.

-Decreased coffee consumption drastically. I have no need for it now that I’m not working 6am to 2:30pm shifts. Plus, tea tastes so much better.

-Made a few post office trips

-Covered every glass jar and tin I could find with chalkboard paint.

-Applied for forbearance on my student loans. I get the feeling that’s gonna be an uphill battle.

-Packed lunches, prepared breakfasts, nagged about homework, and other parental-ish duties for the kiddo. Who probably isn’t the kiddo anymore now that he’s in high school.

I think I’m gonna take today off! <—- Soon after writing that, I heard Lucille Bluth’s voice in my head saying “Really, did “nothing” cancel?”
